President Obama Signs American Innovation and Competitiveness Act
On January 6th, 2017, President Barack Obama signed the American Innovation and Competitiveness Act (AICA) into law. This bipartisan legislation gives the federal government the authority to strengthen and enable America’s innovative scientific research and entrepreneurship. The National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology are called out to improve and fortify the way the agencies conduct and support scientific research. The America COMPETES Act is a built-in component of this act, and concepts from the Citizen Science and Crowdsourcing bill (Senator Coons, D-DE) have been included as well. The Committee on Science, Space, & Technology has issued a press release that provides a broad overview and link to a summary of the legislation, which can be found here and the AICA can be found in its entirety here.
